Taylor Swift: “Stop throwing stuff on stage!”

So, Taylor Swift is a gift-lover. No, really. She loves receiving gifts from her fans, but just not when they throw them on stage during her concerts. The pop superstar made her feelings clear during a recent concert in Buenos Aires, Argentina, when she paused at the piano to address her fans about this very important matter.

“Just because communication means having gentle, healthy boundaries, it really freaks me out when stuff gets thrown on the stage, because if it’s on the stage then a dancer can trip on it,” Swift said. “I love that you brought presents and that is so nice, but just can you please not throw them on the stage. I love you so much.”

Now, we all know that Taylor Swift has a way with words, but this particular plea could not have been more heartfelt. The last thing Taylor wants is for one of her dancers to trip over a random gift box in the middle of a high-energy performance. So, fans, let’s just keep the gift-giving to a non-throwing, more controlled type situation, okay?

And just to give you a visual on how impassioned this request was, there’s even a video clip of the moment. So, if you’re curious about what exactly went down, you can watch it and see for yourself.

But here’s the thing, Taylor’s fans might have been in an especially loving, gift-giving mood at the show. Why, you ask? Well, it just so happened that the concert came just a day after Swift gave a musical shout-out to her in-attendance beau, Travis Kelce, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end. During her performance of the song “Karma,” Swift added a line to the lyrics that went “Karma is the guy on the Chiefs/ Coming straight home to me.” Yes, we can imagine the delight in the stadium audience (and, presumably, Kelce) after this unexpected shout-out.

In fact, the lyric change apparently startled even Swift’s dancers, and delighted the stadium audience (and, presumably, Kelce). According to the Taylor Swift Updates X account, the “Karma” studio recording jumped 115 spots on the Daily Global Spotify Songs list following the Kelce shout-out. So, maybe a little bit of love and romance on stage isn’t such a bad thing after all.

Now, as for the throwing of objects, Swift’s warning followed last summer’s series of incidents in which tossed items posed significant danger to performers. Bebe Rexha was struck in the eye by a thrown cellphone (the thrower was charged with assault), and singers Drake and Kelsea Ballerini were hit by thrown objects at shows. Yeah, Taylor definitely doesn’t want to risk any of that happening during her own concerts.

So, to sum it up, Taylor Swift loves gifts, but let’s keep them off the stage during her performances. She appreciates the love and support from her fans but let’s just avoid any potential trips and falls. We’ve got to keep everyone, including the dancers, safe in the name of good ol’ Taylor Swift entertainment. And let’s face it, when Taylor asks, we listen.
