“The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” is welcoming back a familiar face to its writing team. A.D. Miles, who previously served as the head writer on the NBC late-night talk show, has confirmed his return, according to Variety.
Earlier last year, Mason Steinberg was hired for the position but is now exiting the show.
In 2017, Miles decided to step down from the head writer role to pursue acting and narrative television and film writing. However, after eight years of collaboration with Fallon, which began during their time together on NBC’s “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon” from 2009 to 2014, Miles is excited to be returning to “The Tonight Show,” where they have collectively worked on over 1,500 episodes of late-night television.
Many viewers may recognize A.D. Miles from his appearances on “The Tonight Show,” particularly his role as stepdad Gary in Fallon’s popular “Ew!” sketches. These sketches have featured numerous celebrities, including Emma Stone, Taylor Swift, and Drew Barrymore. Miles has also showcased his talent as a member of The Ragtime Gals, a vocal group that has appeared on the talk show.
Aside from his work on “The Tonight Show,” Miles has written for the Comedy Central series “Dog Bites Man,” in which he also starred, and the 62nd Emmy Awards, which Fallon hosted. In terms of acting, he has appeared in the 2001 film “Wet Hot American Summer” as well as the Netflix prequel series “Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp” and its follow-up series “Ten Years Later.” Additionally, he has made guest appearances on shows like “Reno 911” and “Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!”
