The highly anticipated second season of Loki is set to bring back Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror in various forms, but the show’s director hints at the arrival of a “definitive” version of the character. In a recent interview, director Dan DeLeeuw expressed his love for Kang and stated that the MCU has yet to showcase the ultimate iteration of this formidable villain.
In the upcoming episode of Loki season 2, fans will witness Jonathan Majors reprising his role as Victor Timely, a variant of Kang the Conqueror introduced in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. While this version of Kang offers an intriguing take on the character, DeLeeuw’s comments suggest that an even more powerful and fleshed-out portrayal of Kang is yet to make its debut.
“I love all the Kangs, I think Kang’s a great character. I don’t know that we’ve seen the definitive Kang yet, in terms of what I would envision the definitive Kang [to be],” DeLeeuw explains. “I think there’s still someone yet to come out of the shadows.”
This revelation hints at the possibility that Loki season 2 is laying the groundwork for Jonathan Majors’ portrayal of Kang in the highly anticipated film Avengers: Kang Dynasty. It remains to be seen how this “definitive” Kang will differ from the version seen in Quantumania or Victor Timely in Loki, but one thing is certain—the Marvel Cinematic Universe is poised to introduce a truly menacing and dangerous villain in the near future.

Returning as the God of Mischief, Tom Hiddleston leads the cast of Loki season 2. Joining him are Owen Wilson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Wunmi Mosaku, Tara Strong, Eugene Cordero, Rafael Casal, Kate Dickie, Liz Carr, Ke Huy Quan, and Neil Ellice.
Eric Martin has taken over as the head writer for the second season of Loki, replacing Michael Waldron. Both Martin and Waldron serve as executive producers alongside Tom Hiddleston, Justin Benson, and Aaron Moorhead. Benson and Moorhead have directed the majority of the episodes for the upcoming season.
