Shah Rukh Khan, the Bollywood superstar, is currently enjoying the success of his latest blockbuster film, “Jawan.” The movie, which was released on September 7, has already grossed an impressive $79.4 million worldwide, according to Red Chillies Entertainment, the production company behind the film. This makes it the third-highest grossing Indian film of the year, following Khan’s own “Pathaan” and Sunny Deol’s “Gadar 2.”
One of the most talked-about aspects of “Jawan” is Khan’s bald look in the film. In a recent interview with Amazon’s IMDb show, “Icons Only,” Khan revealed that he chose the bald look out of laziness. He wanted to avoid spending two hours on makeup, so he decided to go bald instead. He jokingly added, “I just hope girls like bald men because I like bald girls.”
In “Jawan,” Khan portrays dual roles, both with shades of anti-heroes. He confessed that he never wanted to play the traditional hero, as he finds them boring. He explained, “I find heroes very boring. I find them doing all the good things. Hence, to be able to do good, I need to quickly transfer to do bad so I can understand that part. That way, I can play the good guy with much gusto again. Playing the puppy-eyed good guy repeatedly is boring after a point. Personally, I love playing bad guys.”
The film also features a strong female supporting cast, with five fierce women sharing the screen with Khan. He expressed his admiration for their performances, stating, “The idea was to take five fierce, dangerous women who on the face appear as if they’ve done wrong things. All of them have learned how to do action for the film, some for the first time. More than the fierceness of the girls, I’ll miss their support on the film.”
Directed by Atlee, known for his success in the Tamil-language industry, “Jawan” belongs to the genre of filmmaking prevalent in South India. Khan described this style as louder, larger, and bigger than life. He believes that it offers a unique cinematic experience, saying, “It’s a roller coaster ride of everything packed into two and a half hours. It can be an out-of-body experience for global audiences.”
