Is Warner Bros. recasting Zack Snyder’s Justice League for James Gunn’s DCU?

The sun has finally set on Zack Snyder’s empire. A new report suggests Warner Bros. will recast every member of his Justice League film for the upcoming DC Universe reboot by James Gunn and Peter Safran.

Up until now, there have been conflicting reports about which actors may stay in the DCU, with stars like Gal Gadot previously teasing their return. These hopes have been fully dashed in a new article released by Variety that confirms she will not return as Wonder Woman, with the following roles also being recast: Ezra Miller as The Flash, Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, and Jason Momo as Aquaman.

This doesn’t mean we won’t see any of the actors return for new roles in the DCU. The same report also teased Jason Momoa being recast as Lobo, potentially even appearing in Superman: Legacy. However, it does certainly confirm that Zack Snyder’s Justice League will be fully left behind in favor of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new direction.

The Future of the DC Universe

James Gunn and Peter Safran told journalists that their vision for the DC Universe includes locked scripts, wiggle room, and a unified storyline across film, television, animation, and video game projects. The two explained that the DC Universe could bring back elements from previous DC regimes, meaning that their eight-to-year plan is not a full reboot.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The Flash, and Blue Beetle have all been released following the announcement of the new DC Universe, with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom still slated to hit theaters in 2023. Will the characters from those movies make appearances in the new DCU? Only Gunn and Safran know.
