Karl Urban, our very own Johnny Cage, has blessed us with a behind-the-scenes peek at the upcoming sequel to the “Mortal Kombat” movie. And let me tell you, it looks like it’s going to be epic!
Now, if you’re like me and you love a good throwback, you’ll be thrilled to know that the original “Mortal Kombat” movie, released in 1995, was a huge hit and has since become a cult classic. Fast forward to 2021, and despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, the reboot managed to gross over $83 million worldwide. It’s safe to say that the “Mortal Kombat” franchise has stood the test of time and is still kicking butt.
But let’s get back to the present. The sequel is revving up for action, and with the end of the SAG-AFTRA strike, the Hollywood machine is churning out some serious blockbuster projects. “Mortal Kombat 2” is no exception, and our man Karl Urban gave us a sneak peek by sharing an awesome photo on Instagram. It features the film’s stellar cast gathered on set, and let me tell you, it’s an impressive lineup.
We’ve got Mechad Brooks from “Supergirl” as Jax Briggs, Damon Herriman as Quan Chi, Ana Thu Nguyen as Queen Sindel, Desmond Chiam as King Jerrod, and Martyn Ford as Shao Kahn. And let’s not forget about Lewis Tan as Cole Young and Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, who are expected to make a comeback from the first film. That’s right, folks, it’s going to be a star-studded adventure.
And the cherry on top? Director Simon McQuoid is returning for the sequel, so you know it’s going to be in good hands. Plus, the screenplay is in the capable hands of Jeremy Slater, the genius behind the 2019 Netflix series “The Umbrella Academy.” Oh, and did I mention he’s also working on the new DC Universe with James Gunn? Yeah, this sequel is in for a wild ride.
Now, I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to see what epic battles, spine-ripping fatalities, and bone-crushing fights are in store for us.
