Did Kate Winslet Have to Be “Brave” to Film the Topless Scene for ‘Lee’?

In a recent interview with Vogue, Kate Winslet shared her experience filming a topless scene for her upcoming film, Lee. The actress revealed that she had to summon bravery in order to showcase her body in its “softest version.”

Winslet plays the role of Lee Miller in the movie and, at the time of filming, she was still recovering from a back injury. Despite having “three massive hematomas on [her] spine,” the Titanic star refused to let her physical condition hinder her performance.

During the filming of the scene, some members of the crew suggested that Winslet should adjust her position to hide certain parts of her body. However, she firmly stood her ground and stated, “No, that’s the way it’s going to be!”

Opening up about the challenges she faces when it comes to revealing herself on screen, Winslet attributed it to the intense scrutiny and judgment she experienced from the mainstream media during her twenties. She even described it as a form of bullying. However, she has learned not to waste her energy on criticizing her physical self and instead focuses on believing in herself.

“I think any woman is better off just saying: I believe in myself. It doesn’t matter what other people think; this is who I am—let’s get on with it,” Winslet asserted.

Winslet’s courage and determination to reclaim control over her own body and overcome past criticism demonstrate her resilience in the face of adversity. Fans can expect another powerful performance from her in Lee, which is set to be a thought-provoking and impactful film.
