Sundance-Premiering Sci-Fi Thriller ‘Divinity’ Starring Stephen Dorff & Bella Thorne Lands Interim Agreement

Writer-director Eddie Alcazar’s dystopian sci-fi thriller ‘Divinity’, starring Stephen Dorff, Bella Thorne, and Scott Bakula, has recently secured a SAG-AFTRA Interim Agreement. This agreement allows the cast members to promote the theatrical release of the film, which will hit Regal Union Square in New York on October 13th and Los Angeles on the 20th before expanding wider on November 3rd.

The black-and-white indie film, distributed by Utopian and Sumerian, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year in the NEXT section. ‘Divinity’ is presented and executive produced by Steven Soderbergh and takes place in an otherworldly human existence. The story revolves around scientist Sterling Pierce (played by Scott Bakula) who devotes his life to the pursuit of immortality, creating a groundbreaking serum named “Divinity”.

In the movie, Sterling Pierce’s son, Jaxxon Pierce (played by Stephen Dorff), now controls and manufactures his father’s once-benevolent dream. The drug, ‘Divinity’, has taken over society on this barren planet, but its true origins remain mysterious. Two mysterious brothers portrayed by Moises Arias and Jason Genao arrive with a plan to abduct the mogul, and with the help of a seductive woman named Nikita (Karrueche Tran), they will set on a path towards true immortality.

‘Eddie Alcazar directed the film based on his own script and also served as a producer alongside Javier Lovato, Raphael Gindre, and Johnny Starke.

During an interview at Deadline’s Sundance Studio, Stephen Dorff shared that he was captivated by Alcazar’s short film, ‘The Vandal’, which led him to become a part of ‘Divinity’. Bella Thorne also expressed her enjoyment of the process on the “very unorthodox set”, while Karrueche Tran discussed the film’s intention to open up conversations about death, afterlife, and rebirth.

The latest trailer for ‘Divinity’ can be viewed above, and fans of sci-fi thrillers can look forward to its theatrical release and wide expansion in the coming weeks.
